This tree grows below the ground of equatorial area of the West Africa.
> TECHNOLOGIC FEATURES
The sapwood is whitish or yellow-whitish and is not very distinguished from the heartwood, which is pink or brown. It has a medium and fine texture, mostly straight, and it is medium durable. If it must be used for external structures it is recommended to treat the wood in order to preserve it from fungi attacks.
> SPECIFIC WEIGHT
Seasoned on open air, at 15% of moisture content, it has a specific weight that change from 700 to 800 Kg/m3.
> DRYING METHOD
Drying process must be carried out very slowly but without any particular problem.
> MAIN USES AND WORKING
It is often confused with Anegré, since they have similar characteristics. Akatio is easy to work since it contains lower quantity of silicon in comparison with Anagré: it can be easily sawn and cut, but is not suitable to be stripped. Joints with glue hold firmly even if sometimes it can cause stains; nails and screws penetrate with difficulties, but hold well. It is usually used for parquet floors, frames and furniture. It is often used for decorative purposes.
