> GROWTH AREA
This tree can be found throughout American countries from the centre to the south, and in particular it is placed in Colombia, Venezuela and in the north of Brazil.

> TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES
It is a tree of remarkable dimensions. Its sapwood has a grey-reddish colour, completely different from heartwood which is dark-olive coloured with the presence of light and dark zones. The colour of its wood darkens in time and at the exposure to the light. The Ipè is very hard, heavy, fat, very lasting and resistant to the vegetal and animal parasite attacks.

> SPECIFIC WEIGHT
Generally it is very heavy and well-seasoned. Its specific weight change from 900 to 950 Kg/m3. Some species could be lighter, and weight only 750 Kg/m3.

> DRYING METHOD
Even if it has a tendency to warping, the drying process is quite easy.

> MAIN USES AND WORKING
The manufacture of the Ipè is not always easy and can require the use of special tools. Also the nail joints are not easy and requires a preliminary drilling. With planing and polishing it may be obtained finely smooth surfaces, so this wood lends itself to a good finishing. It can be use for the realisation of several articles, apparatus and scientific instruments, but also for shipbuilding and general furniture.
