This kind of tree develops in the area of pacific coast, from California to Alaska, until Canada, in mixed groups together with Douglasia, Hemlock and other conifers.

The sapwood and the heartwood are difficulty distinguished. The heartwood is light dark reddish. Its structure is generally straight and regular. It is not very resistant to atmospheric agents and it is liable to insect attacks. It doesn’t contain resin.
